Our Future Transitional Housing Community
We are preparing to build a 5-acre safe haven in Kona for youth aging out of foster care — a place where they can heal from trauma, build practical life skills, participate in cultural practice, receive therapy, free college courses, learn farm and trade skills, find a lifelong ohana and grow into thriving young adults.

Your monthly gift helps us move one step closer to making this home a reality.

Critical Support for Youth in Crisis
From mentoring and therapy to art healing, prevention education, and crisis response, your support ensures no young person has to face trauma alone.

Why Your Gift Matters

Hawaiʻi’s foster youth and at-risk youth deserve more than survival — they deserve love, stability, connection, and opportunity. With your help, we can break the cycles of generational trauma, houselessness, abuse, and isolation.

When you join us as a Hero, you’re supporting:

🌺 120 Native Hawaiian foster youth in our OHA-funded Hawaiian Arts for Healing program
🌺 Trauma support programs operating in Hawaiʻi Island schools
🌺 Transitional housing for youth aging out of foster care
🌺 Cultural preservation, healing arts, and mentorship
🌺 A community where every young person is seen, valued, and loved

Why We Share These Stories?

We share these stories so our community can recognize the urgent need to protect Hawaiʻi’s future generations. While the world sees Hawaiʻi as a paradise, those of us who live here know there is a deeper reality, one shaped by intergenerational trauma, family hardship, and keiki who are hurting behind closed doors.

Beneath the beauty of Hawaiʻi Nei are countless children who carry silent pain, whose voices have been overlooked for far too long.

By sharing their stories with compassion and truth, we honor their experiences.

We stand with them…We speak for them until they feel safe enough to speak for themselves.

Because no child in Hawaiʻi should ever feel alone in their suffering — and together, we can be the generation that changes their story.

Collective Impact

Humanity Hale has witnessed firsthand the heartbreaking realities many Big Island youth face — including physical, mental, emotional, and sexual abuse within foster homes meant to protect them. One case in particular, involving severe and repeated harm to vulnerable children, became a turning point for us. It made one thing clear:

We can no longer wait for broken systems to change themselves.

For too long, our keiki and ʻōpio have been treated as an afterthought — their safety delayed, their trauma minimized, their healing postponed. We refuse to accept that any longer.

Humanity Hale is stepping forward with courage, compassion, and cultural grounding to create the safe spaces our youth deserve. But we cannot do this alone. Real change requires all of us.

We invite our local and global communities to join this movement — to stand with our youth, amplify their voices, and help build the future they should have always had.

Together, our collective impact can break cycles of trauma and create generations of healing.

Be a Hero for Hawaiʻi’s Youth

Your $10 monthly commitment can help us secure a functional retreat center in South Kona as a group home and community center. This remarkable facility can provide shelter for up to 40 kids on its five-acre property, ensuring no child remains trapped in abusive homes due to housing shortagesYour $10 monthly commitment is more than a donation — it’s a lifeline.

It helps Humanity Hale secure a transitional healing center in Kona that will serve as a group home, cultural hub, and community center for youth who need it most.

This five-acre sanctuary will provide:

🌺 Safe housing for up to 40 children and teens
No keiki should ever remain in an abusive or unstable home simply because there is nowhere else for them to go. We will start with 16 homes and build as funding permits.

🌺 Cultural and trauma-informed healing
Hawaiian arts, ʻāina-based practices, therapy, mentorship, and life-skills support — all in one place.

🌺 A stable foundation for future generations
A place where youth can rebuild trust, safety, and hope.

Your monthly gift brings us one step closer to opening this home — a place where every child is protected, nurtured, and loved.

The Heart of the Issue

The reality is stark: despite the beauty of Hawaiʻi Nei, our keiki are suffering in plain sight. On the Big Island alone, one report found that food insecurity affects nearly one in three children, with households going without meals entirely. Big Island Video News+1

And nationwide in Hawaiʻi, 45 % of children in foster care are full or part Native Hawaiian — reflecting a deep, systemic imbalance in how trauma and support are distributed. Hawaiʻi Appleseed

For youth in foster care or unstable situations, this means:

  • Housing that fails to serve as home — or worse, environments where abuse and neglect go unchecked.

  • Lack of basic safety, nourishment, and belonging — even though the island is framed as “paradise.”

  • A system that treats children as a line item instead of a human life to be valued, nurtured, and cherished.

We are done with that. We refuse to remain bystanders.

It’s time to build a home where these children are truly valued —not exploited or ignored.
Will you be their Hero?
